I remember back in the Balkan wars :( an American reporter asked a British soldier what it was like being an African American in the British Army. The soldier replied that he didn't know, because he was British. Apparently he was much amused.

Yeah, this really bothers me. I've clicked out of more than a few fics just because they do this.
