I was indifferent about her until I heard about her attitude to the pandemic. To boot, "there is always something every election year" made her sound like a stereotypical American who can't quite grasp that other countries are actual places filled with real people. Europe isn't on varying levels of lockdown because of the US elections.

Unfortunately, she's not alone. There's a significant number of people who think the COVID-19 pandemic is greatly exaggerated for Reasons, and being a rich person enables her to feel safe and untouchable.

When we heard the first of Covid-19 I honestly thought the US was massively overreacting to what sounded like a normal flu that didn't affect most of the population. This was even before Italy started reporting their own numbers, and it was still mostly a China thing. So the panic-buying and the talk of shutting down everything seemed like a lot of hyperbole. Plus I remember the panic over the swine flu and how that basically fizzled out.

I was wrong. Luckily I'm a Californian and so I was already being isolated when the numbers from Europe started coming in and we got a better look at this nightmare.

I guess what I'm saying is, it wasn't unreasonable at first to think the reaction was overblown, but by now? You have to be a complete fucking moron to ignore how bad it's gotten.

Even if people choose not to take precautions and don't give a shit about endangering others, in some places most things are closed or cancelled anyway and some groceries are hard to come by and other people will distance themselves and their families from you and your kids, so you can't live your life as normal even if you want to, even if no one is stopping you from leaving the house. If the hospitals get overloaded, better hope you don't have some other kind of medical emergency!

The crazy thing is that her father is immunocompromised and lives with her. My parents aren't at quite as much risk, but I am still so worried for them. I can't even fathom being that stupid.

Yep, but it came across (at least to me) that she only did it because she got caught/people were criticizing her, not because she actually felt bad. I don't like her because of this, and the apology made zero difference to me.

She Did apologise for this and say she didn't know how bad it was and can you blame her really with. Well you know who down playing it at every turn I barely know her only from the marvel movies but i herd about this a like a week or two later her take was drastically different , maybe cut people some slack she has now educated herself it seems and is self isolated. So what we all need is more education maybe

Yes, you can blame her, just as you can blame anyone for listening to the fuckhead and not knowing better by now. People have had over 3 years to realize that that jackass can't be trusted and to listen to actual reputable sources, and if they still haven't learned in that time, then I see nothing wrong with blaming them.

If accurate information hadn't been readily available for weeks at the point that she was saying all this, then you might have a point. But it was, so you don't. Willful ignorance is not an excuse. Taking the word of a documented liar over the word of medical experts is not an excuse. There is no reason not to be educated on this topic.

Well... yes. We CAN blame her, actually. It's one thing to be sadly ignorant of just how bad COVID-19 was, but:

1) She posted that on March 16, when it was very obvious that this was serious and people should be staying home to protect immune-comprised people, SUCH AS HER OWN FATHER.

2) Even if she was rightfully ignorant because she'd just stumbled out of the desert where she'd been living as a cave hermit for the past month, she has and should take the option of NOT FLAPPING YOUR DAMN PIE-HOLE ABOUT TOPICS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.
