OP

I feel bad because they're not characters that I don't like, they're real people. I know most of the things I get annoyed by are the scripted bits of drama and them constantly talking about their "journey" and other repetitive stuff.

I don't watch a lot of reality shows. I just want the cooking bits without all the talking.

I mean... it's okay to be annoyed by real people, because real people are frequently annoying. I wouldn't feel guilty about that anymore than I'd feel guilty about not liking okra.

DA this.

As someone who is a fan of Masterchef Australia over the other MC (just because it seems more... complete), it's totally cool to dislike real people in a show. This is no different than not liking someone IRL. Real people are frequently complex and annoying, and in high pressure situations like these types of shows, that's going to get magnified.

Yeah, but you're not being annoyed by their real selves, you're being annoyed by the scripted versions. The "fans" who track down and harass the real people after the show, they're the assholes who should (but don't) feel bad. You're fine.

I don't know if there are any contestants this series that I really supported in previous years. I don't think any of them annoy me though either. I do agree that the scripted bits and post-show interview clips are used a bit too much throughout. I'm in it for the food and all the ridiculous dishes, not to make friends with every contestant. I usually tape the episodes and fast forward those parts if they get too annoying.
