If they're really bragging about hoarding food, yeah, that's obnoxious. But if they're just comparing note of things they bought for the pandemic that they wouldn't normally buy, I can understand that.

I bought a flat of diet coke, which I never do, because most days I go to Starbucks for a treat. But now Starbucks is closed, so, flat of diet coke it is. I bought a big bag of lentils, just in case. All the stores were out of toilet paper and we genuinely needed some, so we had to buy it at the 7-11 for like two bucks a roll.

Small things, but weird nonetheless when it's stuff you never do, and you're doing it because society is all topsy-turvy right now.

As for the other thing - yeah, people are sad that stuff they were looking forward to is cancelled. Of course they are. Unless they're literally acting like theirs is a great tragedy and everybody else is having a fine time, I don't see the problem.

Someone can be bummed that their privileged ass doesn't get to go to SXSW, and also recognize how fucking lucky they are not to be hospital staff in Italy (or anywhere) right now. Or be immunocompromised. Etc.

Same. I bought about six pounds of coffee, which I would never do otherwise because I usually get coffee at the little deli next to work. But now I'm not going to work, but I still want to have coffee, so I had to buy some so I can make it myself because my morning cup of coffee is one of the few things I can have that's still normal to me right now.
