Secret-maker, are you me? Did I make this secret in my sleep?

This is word for word my feelings on the subject. I think about the fucking tragedy of what they did to her character at least once a week. FOREVER BITTER.

I kinda shipped them in the beginning but then I saw where that was going and noped out.

THEN I randomly decided to checked up on it and saw that they had a child AND what they had done to Sweets. Biggest NOPE.

I never watched Bones, but it was my best friend's favorite show, and I've logged many hours listening to her share the exact same complaints. She even rage quit a season or two before the show ended. You have my sympathy, OP, and you're not alone!

I didn't manage to stick around longer than 3-4 seasons, the writing and characterization were so uneven and terrible.

Pretty sure it was right around when she got married and Angela steamrolled over all the reasons why Brennan didn’t want a traditional wedding and Brennan was happy it happened that I finally gave up on the show.

So yeah, I agree with this comment. Too many times the people that were supposed to care about her most didn’t even seem to truly care about her own stated wishes and desires and did what they thought was the right thing for her and she always ended up acting as if they were right to do it after all.

I gave up on the show about half way through.

I didn't watch it from the start, then found it and went back and watched the first few seasons, then watched for a few more. But after a while, I got fed up with Booth always being right and Brennan able to learn anything except for why people did the things they do, which I've actually known people who were book smart and not people smart, but it doesn't make it less annoying. The fact that she's an anthropologist just made it even more so.

Agreed. I stopped watching before she got pregnant & had no desire to finish the series.

Strongly seconding this secret. I actually rage quit in S6 (I think?), before it got to its worst. But even by that point it was very clear which way the wind was blowing and I was so fucking sick of it.

YES YES YES YES
I liked that show *so much* when it started, and then.....
*spits*

I always got annoyed with how she was this really smart person at the start - like, super smart - but they kept dumbing her down over the seasons. Like a woman can't be super intelligent and be in a relationship with people at the same time or something. Bleh. And then around the time she got pregnant was when it really tanked, and I gave up on it. Looking at the other comments, it seems like I wasn't alone in feeling that.

Yeah, and I'm not opposed to characters learning from each other and changing that way, but this was so brutally one-sided that it was just disgusting.

I almost gave up on the show in Season 4. I actually gave up during Brennan's pregnancy. I ended up watching part of an episode later with my sister because she was still watching, and I couldn't believe how much they had destroyed her character. So I'm in complete agreement, OP.

I should have given up then. I finally gave up when she and Booth got married. And this is one of the few shows I haven't been able to go back and rewatch, even though I still think seasons 1-3 are still good. What they did later just ruined it too much for me.

You're RIGHT and you SHOULD say it.

I noped out of the show earlier on but my family was super into it, and the whole baby thing, I just feel sick about to this day. Like that's not HER.

for me it was ep where they argued about god and then actually had a fucking ghost so that booth was ultimately right, because the ~blessing~ helped save him from danger. like what the absolute fuck?

the whole show is very autism speaks (did they ever admit that Brennan was neurodivergent or did they just decide that this type of forced socialization was okay because they never said she was)

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the writing was on the wall first season when they made her the gnu atheist who, in spite of being an anthropologist, was clueless to the point of insensitivity regarding religion.
