Re: What makes you mock a fic?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-05 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)And sharing secrets and commenting on them is not usually mocking? Don't tell me that you don't see a difference between saying "I don't like it" and "wow lol look at this". I stick to the former and ignore the latter, which isn't that hard because not that much mocking happens here. It's only the occasional secret or comment, it's not pervasive.
Re: What makes you mock a fic?
(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 09:23 am (UTC)(link)No, I've never done this ever, tbh. I don't think I've ever even considered it. I once make a games thread post about posting your favourite fanfic quotes and voting on them, but I don't think I've ever outwardly mocked a persons fic to someone else basically ever. To myself maybe, but never seriously, and even then I'm usually more hung up on a bad turn of phrase than anything.
I do become frustrated at consistently terrible characterization, and when people take a period piece and disregard everything that could/did happen in that time period while still tagging "canon era" and nothing to suggest otherwise. But aside from leaving maybe one harsh comment in the last like ten or so years, I just keep it to myself.
I'm more happy to share the fics that are genuinely amazing than ridicule those that grate on my nerves. (idk, maybe it's because I know I can be very cruel if I want to, so if I wanted to do something mean spirited I'd just tell it to the authors face, rather than bouncing the fic around and waiting for someone to, what?, do it for me?)
