The creator of Gargoyles discussed a few ideas for the future of the series (part of this was actually in the comics too), basically in the main series Brooklyn would have found the Phoenix Gate, disappeared, and returned moments later grown up with a wife and kids having spent years traveling through time. Then there would have been a spinoff called Timedancer that covered his travels.

The problem is without the spinoff it's just a snap of fingers and the character's been changed which is...disappointing.
