(Anonymous) 2020-04-09 09:04 am (UTC)(link)Fandom and activism have always been very well separated worlds for me, as I think they should be. I cannot help what I am interested into when it comes to fictional settings, but in my day to day life I absolutely support LGBTQA+ people and POC all the way, in the ways I reasonably can as a single individual.
The fact that the feelings like the one you experienced is so prevalent it's such a shame. Like, I get it that finding a m/m fic might be baby's first taste of minority representation for some people, but once you've found that out, the activism should be a separated facet of one's life from what they like to write/read/draw about fandom-wise.
Also, like, I have sadly met people who like slash ship and are *real* homophobe irl. Like, Christian conservatives levels of homophobia. Clearly, liking slash/femslash and being also not a dickward irl are not necessarily correlated situations.
