Considering all the reboots and retakes and retcons and etc. of, say, comic canon, I say....no.

Well of course when it comes to comics you have to be very careful with stating who is writing/drawing/dilierating any one character at any given time. Comic books are like off the shelf for canon consistency, it's most of the reason why I have a hard time getting into them. But generally there's still a rule/code to go by. Like with Scarecrow from batman, you need to clarify which universe the comic is in, who's writing him (aka Salescrow is a really fucking interesting take) and what realm.
Generally there's the approved and accepted default character for comics. (aka deadpool was done seriously wrong like most of the time he was written basically) but from transfer to comic to movie stance (aka Bucky from comic to MCU) there are very clear cut definitions between the characters, because obviously they cannot be the same....

Basically there are characters who 'are not that original character' because there are multiple adaptions of them, and then there are the characters whom fandom want to fit in a certain SJW pothot when their canon character is anything but.
There are exceptions, obviously, but only when there is more than one canon instance of any one character and that's basically all.
