152-About the only people who would know how to say it are the anime fangirls, (and maybe a few anime fanboys), and they aren't exactly any more intelligent than anyone else. And the brain surgeon who doesn't know how to pronounce yaoi (and probably doesn't even know what yaoi is) is still probably more intelligent than you. So what's your IQ? 40-something, maybe?

Your brain surgeon, not knowing about it, is not likely to say the Y-word at all, right? The people who say it (either way) are probably people who know it (mostly fans, like you said). So OP is bitching mostly about fans who say the name of their own fandom "wrong", probably catching some other anime-folk in the splash, but I can't see it meaning people totally outside fandom.

If it means only the people in fandom (though I don't know where you get that), it's really not that much better, though it's less embarassing I guess.

The fans would be the only ones who know how it is pronounced, but it comes out in other places, especially fandom (like right now) or also in discussions about homosexual media, or from family/friends. The first time I saw it (my baby sister was a fan of it), I thought it was said "yah-oy".

Snobbery is rude, snobbery over nerdy bullshit is just embarrassing, and when you throw "IQ" in there (someone who doesn't know random fandom pronunciations is mentally deficient)--it's absurd. I thought it was a troll secret until I saw how many yaoi fangirls were happily agreeing with it.
