That stupaid off to help only ever does two things:
1. Puts your host on the spot because then they'll either have to keep you from meddling while you insist on "helping" while demonstrating to them that "Oooohhhh, you're not ready yet??? Whoops."
2. Most people only ever ask to "help" and then stand around in your kitchen, interrupting, taking up space and being a nuisance.


Most people will not tell you to gtfo and come back on time because that'd be rude but very, very few people are genuinely happy if someone shows up too early. They're probably just being nice and cursing you for being an inconsiderate prat.

And there are things that can not be ready hours before guests show up.
