Clearly the IRS wants to make this as difficult as possible. Went to the website for the stimulus payment. Filled in all my identifying info. Got the message "Status not available."

Went to the frequently asked questions page. They had a list of reasons why that message might appear. Only none of those reasons apply to me. I am eligible for a payment.I filled out my 2018 taxes. I'm not on any sort of government benefits.

Of course they have no contact information or any other possible answers.

So I have no way of finding out why my status isn't available. No way of knowing what is wrong or how to correct it. So now I'm freaking out that I'm not going to get that money. And since I was planning on using it to pay this year's taxes, this would be a problem.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but the site is not working for a lot of people: https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/personalfinance/irss-coronavirus-stimulus-check-tracking-tool-is-not-working-for-many/ar-BB12GGW7

So, nothing might be wrong, except for, you know, the government with technology. But anyway, try not to stress too much, federal taxes aren't due until July 15, so you've got some time there (our state moved the state taxes due date until then, but I don't know the particulars for your state).

Best of luck to you. I don't live in america, so I'm not sure what to say. Just that a lot of patience and perseverance is needed for mistakes like this... I'm guessing something must have been filed wrong, so your best bet is to get proof of stimulus from your last taxes or chances are they'll tell you the faults with you...

My parents had a similar experience with trying to pay the phone company, they used the same method as always (which they've never had an issue with in the past) and the company ended up taking 3x the payments and still tried to say we didn't pay. They completely disregarded everything we tried to tell them, and it took literally (and I men literally) +5 hours of hold time just to get to talk to someone, only to get hung up on twice... The bank gave us just as much as a hard time trying to retract the payments... It took like three full days just to talk to someone and over a week to get the payments canceled, and the phone company still kept on bitching that they were never payed in the first place... Crazy.
