I've definitely done similar things! For whatever reason the first thing that's coming to mind is the Babysitters Club books, which I loved when I was in elementary school. There's a character whose last name is Spier (which is pronounced "spear", which I learned from the TV show) but for some reason my mind inserted a C in there so I always thought it was Spicer until I saw the show lol.
