That's honestly hilarious, probably shouldn't be, but oh well.

I feel like people who say she is just the same as the others or that she mistreats the cats have only watched the show and don't know anything about her. When she was first starting out trying to help the big cats, she made some missteps. Then she learned. Now her company is one of the best ones out there doing this particular bit of charity work. They are doing great things. They do it the right way. She wanted to do the right thing all along, she just didn't know how to in the beginning.

Re: What was the first fandom you made your first fanwork in?

I think Supernatural, although I vaguely remember attempting to write a story based on some soap opera when I was in middle school (not sure which one though, my mom watched a bunch and always had them on so I got in the habit of watching, too).

this is what frustrates me so much about a lot of fic these days, people are just defaulting to some fandom cookie cutter dynamic and i dislike it so much. i'm not here for OC's with the same names, i want the characters to actually act like themselves.

Like yeah, people like different things all the time, it's just taste and perspective. I know there's been a lot of times where I've been surprised at just how much people might love/hate something but it's not like don't get it.

OP

Some siblings just don't give off sibling vibes.

Haha yes. There was a time where they were doing an episode about a serial killer who picked up men at gay bars and one of them was like "so if we met at a bar and went home together..." and another episode that was about a woman who had a stalker who sent her these supposedly romantic letters, and one of them was talking about the letters and what was in them and said "you're the love of my life" and the other said "oh, that's so nice of you to say to me!". In retrospect those are...weird comments to make to your sibling lol.

OP

Which podcast? I'm always looking for new ones.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why exactly? Seems devious at the very least... but then again fandom these days don't give a shit about canon and prefer to write/read everything through beige tinted glasses, aka basic and boring and unoriginal. Chances are it's these people who like your characterization.

This is beautiful and helps keep hope alive. Thanks for sharing this.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hell I think you just got me searching the internet for the rest of the night.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'd be more into it if I could differentiate the two out of costume. Most fanart and official art has them looking exactly the same, except one is shorter.

You should really stop commenting while high.

If people want to write original fiction they should just do it, not paste their crappy OC's over existing characters. Honestly, I don't see how people don't get that, like what's the actual reason to write/read fanfiction if you don't care about what/who you're writing about...

No, it's not actually. It's about exploring the world and the canon interactions, it's about expanding on the source material not dismissing it. The only time this isn't (or shouldn't) be the case it in fix-it fics, but those wouldn't exist if the writers didn't care about the show. Wanting to make a better ending, having it not end at all, or reversing a characters death, means you actually have to care enough about the series/characters otherwise they wouldn't bother trying to fix it in the first place.

What with Superman/Wonder Woman shipping and Batman/Wonder Woman shipping, you might as well complete the triangle.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Because then why are you even a fan?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
This is definitely a more recent development in fandom I have to say, how early are you talking about? Since from the 90's on, I've never seen people stick to inaccurate characterization like this, and I was really into anime as a kid.

I'm thinking circa 2000 or so, especially in fandoms like Gundam Wing. There were a lot of people on FFNet who were writing it and reading it that had never actually watched it, or if they had, maybe only a few episodes.

There really is a huge difference between 'based on' and 'inspired by'.

Re: What was the first fandom you made your first fanwork in?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-17 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I can't remember, Lion King maybe? If were talking like little kid drawings, otherwise it would probably be Naruto. The first thing I shared publicly at least, and only because it was a shitty little paragraph about how Zetsu was born from a forbidden lakeside romance between a man and a tree, that I posted in a FF forum.

Could it have something to do with stress? You're probably still stressed due to, you know, the whole world, but maybe a specific stressor that is gone now is allowing your libido to blossom. That's a thing that can happen.

Good luck with that, anon!

Huh, I never saw that myself but then again I was never big on Gundam Wing. It was widely available where I when I was growing up, and the 2000's were huge on pirating so it wouldn't be too hard to find it. Oh course you're right that it wasn't perfect, but overall people seemed to actually care about how OOC their writing was.
Sorry if I'm sounding a little testy, I just get frustrated about these types of things. It does vary depending on the fandom for sure.
