Ugh, that's terrible. I really wish people would realize that shows are fictitious and harassing the showrunners/actors is a horrible and shitty thing to do. Like people are insane, I can't stand it.

i still don't know where this 'if i harass the writers+creators of the show they'll make my ship canon' mindset even comes from?

there's only one show i know of where the fan-popularity actually changed the writing to make the fanon OTP canon, but 1) it was white-het, and 2) it's literally the only incident where this has happened, no other show has tanked it's own internal structure to veer off-course for some fanon ship just because it was popular in the fanbase*, and no amount of fan campaigns and @'ing the writers is going to change that.

if anything in most cases i think it would turn them off ever doing it, i know i'd deliberately keep a pair apart and romantically link them to other characters just to spite the entitled little shitbags.

*(yes there are shows that have tanked their own internal narratives to re-hash a dead romance or insert an out-of-nowhere one at the end because of reasons, but those have all come from within, not because of external fan influence).

Yep. Anyone who harasses and bullies people and acts like a spoiled brat doesn't deserve to get what they want.

That kind of behavior also isn't fair to the fans who may also want those same pairings to become canon, but who aren't out there bullying anyone over it. They may not wind up getting what they want, either, all because some obnoxious idiots couldn't behave like mature human beings.

It's a Ryan Murphy show with canon gay characters already (Hen and her wife, Karen, Michael, and Josh) and it has featured several gay couples in the calls-of-the-week.

I assume because, on the surface, it's a show about first responders, i.e. ~heroes. And a couple of black lesbians is one thing (I mean, they were already black), but now the gay is threatening to touch the Good Guys (one of the characters is a very white firefighter, the other is a firefighter named Diaz, but he was in the military and is ergo a real man and all that).

Diaz is Mexican-American and has an awesome kid with CP. I love their relationship so much.

I think your implication would hold more water if the spin-off (9-1-1 Lonestar) didn't also have a gay hero firefighter in a relationship with a cop. Oh, and an African American f2m firefighter as well. The franchise seems pretty devoted to heroes of all types (including a Muslim woman).

I love Hen btw, but I wish she would spend less time helping people with their problems and more time on her own family and career.

Shipping goggles aside, I love the found family feel between Buck and Eddie&Christopher. I am not close to my own family and consider my friends the most important people in my life, so friends as family is a weakness of mine.

Oh, both shows are very diverse. But I think, in the original at least, those who really want to can turn a blind eye to the characters and storylines they don't like. Considering how many out right lies on one and simple scientific facts on the other side people can ignore...

I agree. We get more regular glimpses into the other characters' private lives, while Hen rarely breaks out of her role as supporting character.

Yeah. I said in another comment that I have no idea because honestly, I have no idea how/why those people's brains work the way they do, but when I try to analyze it, I think they might be okay with certain characters being gay if they're far enough removed from them, if that makes sense. Like, lesbians are fine cause they're women, and Michael is older so he doesn't count, and Josh isn't traditionally "manly", so obviously HE'S gay, but...two young, more stereotypically "masculine", "straight-seeming" guys, there's no way THEY can be gay. (Not speaking from my own point of view here, obviously.) It's mostly young, straight guys that I see who are the most critical, so I feel like maybe they identify the most with Buck/Eddie and the idea of them, specifically, being gay (the horror!) bothers them.

I don't know, I'm probably putting too much effort into trying to understand the way their brains work.

I have no idea, but they're definitely out there! I only know one in real life and I always wonder why she even watches the show when she feels the way she does, but she's not a friend or anything, barely an acquaintance, so I just don't want to get into it with her. I come across a bunch online, though.

...I'm into this ship, but I know exactly two other people who are into it and have missed the drama. Knowing fans are being assholes about it and writers are queerbaiting is going to make looking for bits and pieces of interaction I can read into less fun now.

Same here. I have one friend who is also into this ship, we squee about it occasionally but I've never looked into the actual fandom for it before. Now I'm glad I keep my distance and just enjoy the subtext on screen.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to make it less fun for you! There are the homophobes/assholes, but there are plenty of people who are into it, too, so I just ignore the assholes.

I'm not so sure the writers necessarily ARE queerbaiting, they've just been accused of it. I mean, the actors have said they'd be fine with it if they went in that direction, and it is a Ryan Murphy show. I'm probably being delusional, but I feel like it has at least SLIGHTLY more of a chance of happening than Supernatural or something.
