(Anonymous) 2020-04-18 01:52 am (UTC)(link)I'm generally very realistic about my ships never becoming canon, but I still have moments, all the time, where I just can't get over it. I think about what the story would be if the writers would just go there with it, and then I look at what the story is, and it's like, god damn it, why? WHY? And while I know that part of it is just my shipping goggles, there are honestly plenty of slash and femslash ships I don't even ship, but I can still see that the story would be better if the writers would just let them be in love/lust/it's complicated/whatever.
The absolute daft refusal of most mainstream media to just get off their heteronormative bullshit from time to time truly is frustrating and exhausting. For one, because it's shitty for LGBT+ people. But also, it just cuts off so many avenues for good storytelling, and makes mainstream media so much blander and more predictable.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)Exactly! I'm just so ridiculously tired of the heteronormative bullshit. Even though I shouldn't, I sometimes find myself getting my hopes up that this time they're going to do something different, but of course they never do. There are just so many other options besides "man and woman [who a lot of the time have zero chemistry] get together and eventually get married and have kids" and it's so frustrating that most media refuses to acknowledge that, or if they do, act like it's somehow inferior to a traditional heterosexual white picket fence stereotype. Not to mention it's fucking boring seeing the same stories told over and over and over and over again.
