This is absolutely valid. I have a completely unrelated squick that I'm perfectly fine with reading about, but seeing it visually is a big fat NOPE.

I kinda get this as visuals can be a lot more full-on and in your face, but my tolerance to reading about it has gone down recently as well. I think it's because I've noticed how often rape-as-motivation (often for a character who isn't the victim) crops up and I'm just a little tired of it.

I think the one thing written scenes generally have going for them is that it's not subject to someone trying to present it in a way that is titillation to the same extent as something filmed. That still pisses me off.

Anyway, I get this feeling with gore as well. Horrifically descriptive gore? Fine. Watching it on screen? I often feel sick and have to look away.

Agreed, but I’d like to note that the absolute worst rape-as-titillation I’m aware of isn’t in film. It’s in comics and other stylized visual media.

Can definitely see that. Film still has limitations, mostly of the way you can pose the human body and guidance certification. Comics and other similar things seem to just go wild with horrible visuals at times.
