I think this whole thing might be an American issue? I'm also European and it never occurred to me (before the racism accusations towards everyone who didn't like him) that he wasn't white.

(Not saying Europeans aren't racist btw since that's what people like to insinuate in these situations. European racism is just different from US American racism.)
