No, they're not supposed to be fluffy and sweet by definition. You prefer them fluffy and sweet. Other people prefer them angsty and unnerving, or just want to explore the angsty and unnerving options once and a while. Those other people writing what they want instead of what you want does not mean they're screwing it up.

Well someone's defensive. The point of having a soulmate AU is that you can visibly recognize someone who matches you completely, you find the other half to your soul. If it doesn't match it cant be someones soulmate, having one sided hopelessness in a soulmate AU is like having a modern AU where you transport the characters into the past anyways for time travel fun. Like I guess you can do it, technically it works, but it kinda ruins the underlining point of those tags.
