Yeah, a new actor usually brings in new chemistry with the cast, and their own interpretation of the character. They may be good, but it definitely changes things.

I have a similar thing in that I love the idea of dramatically floating around in a completely OTT nightgown but I know it wouldn't work in real life due to the comfort issue. Also I prefer not wearing anything in bed and just chuck an oversized t-shirt over my head if we have guests or I'm staying somewhere else.

In film and on TV it's definitely done for the look most of the time.

on a slightly related note, which version would you recommend to a newbie?
I've only seen the movie (didn't like it) and read the book (it was ok)

Self-inserts generally don't interest me, but only because I just want to read about the characters and the existing universe. I'll make an exception once in a while, if I feel like it would be a good POV, but I don't usually jump into fics where the OC only exists to have relationships with the main cast and doesn't have another purpose except overshadowing the original story.

I don't hate self-inserts themselves, but if they cross over into Sue territory, I nope out of there quick (unless I need a good laugh that day).
