It is a mental illness, I dont know what causes it but I know you cant blame any one for causing a mental illness.

Somone is perfectly within their rights to express opinions about their body, somone is perfetly within their rights the have the body they want, without having to worry if the way they look, or the way they feel about the way they look will cause somnone to develope a mental illness.

It's a mental illness that is often triggered by something. Either a need for control (ie, they can't control the rest of their life, so they control their food intake)or a desperation to reach a social construct for what is and is not deemed beautiful in a society (in this case, Hollywood images of the stick thin woman). There is rarely a single cause for it, but statements like this encourage and perpetuate that behavior.

That level of desperation, the level where you will harm yourself to reach it, thats a mental illness. It is not that whole thing with society you mentioned that is at fault, that is only the trigger.

Are we to remove / ban / judge all potential triggers as harmful? Should we remove violent games bacause they can trigger some mentally ill kid to take a hammer to his class mates? There are people (admitedly not in the numbers were talking about here) who strive to GAIN as much weight as possible because of their own ideal of beauty / their own need / or whatever. Should I feel guilty being obese? is the way I look making it worse for them? very probably. Should I be held accountable for it?

Having a body type / haing opinions about your body type is not an action. Atleast not an action that ANYONE should be able to say has consequences outside of their own self esteme.

Self esteem = huge factor with anorexia and other eating disorders.

Sorry, that wasn't 100% clear, the only consequences that you need to worry about when having an opinion about your body type is how it affects your own self esteem.

If somone else feels bad about themselves because of what you think about your own body, is that really your fault?
