My late uncle was married to a woman who loved horror films. She put on Child's Play once when babysitting me and I was so upset I hid under the coffee table until my parents came to get me. That woman, it turns out, didn't like me very much.

Later, I fell in love with Brad Dourif's acting and realized he voices Chucky. Also, Chris Sarandon, underrated '80s hottie, was one of the first film's heroes (along with the mother from 7th Heaven). So yeah, while the franchise is schlocky and not terribly scary in hindsight, it's the thought of a child's toy coming life and killing that can be very frightening for a child. That and a child's imagination can conjure up something far worse than what you see on screen.

YES EXACTLY. That man could do anything in the '80s (he even played Jesus!) and looked great doing it.
