in comparing it to frankenstein, i was drawing no parallels with the plot, more the writing style. the effusive, gushing, love will make everything better, shallow, little girl style. she wrote it at the age of twenty, staying in a 'haunted' house with the man she loved, so this may be forgiven. however, the character of victor, who skims lightly through life, ignoring most consequences (until such consequences actually include death) and obsessing over odd details (such as apearance rather then substance), the sacrificing of others for his own one love, all reminded me of the twilight. that said, mary shelley is infinitely more interesting then stephanie meyer. really, i should have said shelley was greater then or equal to meyer.

lol, that certainly makes her style more forgivable than that of a 35-year-old Mormon housewife who had a wet dream about sparkly vampires and decided to inflict it on the rest of us.
I understand what you're saying. Shelley's style is definitely a little messy. But under the less-than-great writing is still an incredible story with powerful themes. Under Twilight's shitty writing is nothing but a crap teen romance novel. Not even an original one since it addresses no theme that Buffy and a little book called Dracula hadn't already covered.
Sorry if it seems like we jumped on you. Lol, it's just that I've heard some doozies from srs bsn fans who consider Twilight to be a work of high quality literature. My favorite still remains
Fan: You skim To Kill a Mockingbird, you read Twilight!

and yes, beyond the silliness of shelley's writing there was a great thinker screaming to be heard. beyond the silliness of meyer's writing there is... more silliness. and a neck fetish?
in conclusion, this (http://katebeaton.com/Site/History_Project.html) makes me kind of start to like mary. nothing will make me like stephanie.

Exactly. Every writer's first novel is a bit crap. They haven't honed their craft yet. But to have Frankenstein as your first novel is pretty impressive, effusive prose aside. Whereas Meyer... lol, well...
Kate Beaton is the best. :D
Lord Byron: Try and find a place here that I haven't put my penis in! (It's not easy)
lol forever

what does it have to do with Twilight
lol though I haven't read Twilight but I know a lot of people who have and a Romantic/Gothic novel about playing God and horrible suffering versus a goofy girl fantasy love story whose author listened to MCR while writing it don't seem too similar to me

Wuthering Heights (again, what I read of it before resorting to cliffnotes, AP lit is set at a bitch pace) was a fun read with engaging characters and plenty of depth (even though the repeated names were goofy, I loved the parallels) while fucking JANE EYRE was a goofy boring love story with a million descriptive paragraphs too many
