Again, I love Rose. And Raiden. And I actually liked them WHILE PLAYING MGS2. Which, apparently, is a rather strange phenomenon. But yes, when Raiden came out as a cyborg ninja, and proceeded to kick all manners of ass in that teaser trailer, I laughed my head off at the people who were suddenly moaning that they couldn't play as him. Even though most of them were the same people who moaned that they had to play as him in the second game.

Also, I felt bad for Rose just from the initial story we were given. I mean, how could you not be afraid when your boyfriend, who was a child soldier (and a pretty efficient killer), suddenly has his memories pop back up, then starts coming home all hours of the night either drunk, or drunk and beaten up? While you're pregnant with his child, and pretty much defenseless? Pretty scary to me.

I just think people's reluctance to understand and appreciate her character stems mostly from the general dislike of the game she originated in.

I just wrote a long comment about Rose being screwed over in MGS2, but GMail ate it, so I'll sum up.

1. Raiden was awesome and I do not understand why people whine about him. If you do, I genuinely think you missed one of the major points of the game.
2. Rose and Raiden's heart-to-hearts were unintentionally hilarious. The writing was just bad. The tinkly piano music just made things worse.
3. Rose is awesome and MGS4 managed what MGS2 kinda fumbled- making her a likable human character.
4. MGS2 was the best game, IMO.
