Yeah, I've been wondering about that; if "furry" is only people who like to have sex in fursuits, what are the people who merely enjoy anthro art? I'm sure those people are pretty fed up with being included in the former group.
"Rapist" "sadist" or "zoophile" are generally used in situations where it isn't really correct? I'm not sure how you could mistake any of those things (though I thought the same about paedophilia).
In law enforcement, the term "pedophile" is generally used to describe those accused or convicted of the sexual abuse of a minor (including both prepubescent children and adolescent minors younger than the local age of consent).
Really? The word is used incorrectly in official law documents? Well, I'm boggled all right. I'm not really a fan of "everybody else use it wrongly, so I will too" reasoning, though.

That's like saying anyone agnostic or atheist or non-christian/whathaveyou saying they're "married" is WRONG as marriage is an inherently religious thing. People who are married are married according to the law. People who are pedophiles can be pedophiles according to the law.

Still, should you do it on an international arena like the internet? I know the U.S. has a tendency to sometimes make up its own definitions (in the political arena, for example), but using it outside your country will make people confused. Or angry, if you go around calling people things that really are rather horrible.
Our laws don't define paedophiles, just states that certain acts against children below the age of fifteen (or in the case of certain forms of coercion, below eighteen) are a crime.

Er, what? About half the people I knew who are married got married in a way that has nothing to do with religion (I don't know what it's called in English; a sort of civil ceremony?). Actually, even those who did get married in a church tend to not see it as a religious thing, but I think it's because we're Swedes, heh. Or don't I understand your metaphor? Are you talking about the origin of marriage? Because that had to do more with land and property than anything else, IIRC...
