Any Youtube Channels/Videos to rec?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dreamsounds - has a few video essays on Disney sounds/soundtracks. Definitely recommend the video Queerness of Howard Ashman Songs

Get In the Robot - Goes into anime tropes, genres and a few focusing on specific series. recommending their 'Why' videos like 'Why Mascots?, Why Magical Girl transformation and Why Anime Characters Scream.

Red Bard - Kind of goes into more niche areas on Anime fandom/cultures/merch and sometimes focuses more on Anime shows or video games. Recommending The Rise and Fall on the Yaoi Paddle, and Tokyopop Vs its Original English Language Manga Creators (It sort-of follows her previous video The Fall of Tokyopop, but I think you can watch it without seeing it)

Also I haven't finished watching it but its interesting so far - by Eldena Doubleca5t 'Msscribe The Harry potter Fandom's Greatest Con-Artist'

Kitboga https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm22FAXZMw1BaWeFszZxUKw and Jim Browning https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBNG0osIBAprVcZZ3ic84vw to watch people fuck with scammers

GoodBadFlicks https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKttDTGqEbBrC7jDN2_axQ for a positive view on mostly terrible movies

LOCAL58TV https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuoMasRkMhlj1VNVAOJdw5w/videos Not a lot here, but what is there is fantastically creepy

Defunctland https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVo63lbKHjC04KqYhwSZ_Pg Great video essays on old amusement parks, rides, and TV shows.

This is a playlist, but if you like the SCP Foundation, you will probably like the Confinement series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM6GkERwEM0&list=PLEXIiC3q94eO992TlwBD98Zast0gret1r

I've been binging on so much Defunctland recently! I baked breakfast cookies last night and this morning I was eating one and thought "Why does this cookie make me think of Captain EO?"

I just wish she had more output. Maybe Covid-19 will spawn a couple videos from her.

Apparently she had (probably) covid so I can understand that having an effect on her output

I think she's better now, though, thank God

DA - She's *somewhat* better, but having Super Pneumonia for a few weeks has some nasty longer term affects :c

Bernadette Banner. I have no real interest in historical fashion and only minor interest in sewing, but it's still fascinating to watch and listening to her voice is very soothing.

Here she is re-creating a Met Gala gown from toilet paper (and explaining why that makes sense in light of toilet paper being in short supply):

This is Dan Bell/Dan Bell Film It: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjU-Cwjfqbo2hMRItlXwnnQ / https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7xXgdp_IJDASe1guOTAfCA

He's a filmmaker who started filming dead malls and abandoned buildings, then branched out to his Another Dirty Room series, in which he and his group take apart poorly rated motel rooms to show how filthy they really are. He also makes documentaries on cryptids and the paranormal. I love the look and feel of his urbex videos and he's a total delight.

I'm sure everyone has already heard of Lindsey Ellis, but still. I'm a huge fan of her videos about The Hobbit movies and why they were such a mess (and had longterm negative affects on the actors union in New Zealand), but for a one-off I'd suggest her video on the character of "the Persian" from "The Phantom of the Opera" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrhrXTDeue0], a cool and mysterious brown guy who has *for some mysterious reason* been excised from most adaptations of the novel...

pierre xo - i like his commentary on stuff. he isn't afraid to reveal when he's emotional about something but still keeps it rational and recognizes opposing views to his. plus i like his aesthetic.

kennie jd - she's been doing mostly "bad movies and a beat" videos lately which are fun and easy to watch, where she just talks about shitty movies and does her makeup.

micarah tewers - chaotic neutral nerdy sewing projects

hanse cafe and cooking tree - aesthetic af cooking videos

Lately I've been getting into true crime videos, mainly Stephanie Harlowe and Joshua Miles.

KyletheRooster - just a guy feeding his chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese. he gives them all names and likes to walk around and talk to them and see how they're doing. Steve is very tall.

Tom Scott - ( https://www.youtube.com/user/enyay ) There is something about his cadence and delivery that sits so right with me. (His video about the nestle bottled water is one of my favourites.)

Cathy Hay ( https://www.youtube.com/user/sapphorama/featured ) My introduction to Cathy Hay was via Bernadette Banner's video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMGyfkvY06g&t=981s ), but sh'e has some really interesting stuff. (Although I don't know if interesting is the right word for the video where she explains why her voice is the way it is)

Jay Foreman (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbbQalJ4OaC0oQ0AqRaOJ9g)

Data is Beautiful ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkWbqlDAyJh2n8DN5X6NZyg )

Ross the Random ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQjZq0InHXbPCPBXDdoaNaA )

Evan Edinger ( https://www.youtube.com/user/naveregnide/videos ) Evan's like Marmite, I find him adorable, but I think he would annoy a lot of people.
