Sorry, I guess I was just a little confused because the thread was about whether it was OK to write a fanfic where the British characters in Harry Potter, a British series, celebrate an American holiday

Mmmm, I'd say the thread is about whether it's okay to assume that everyone in the whole world does everything the same as they do where you live, and whether (when you do that) other people are allowed to call you a dipshit. I just find that Americans are exceptionally prone to this particular error.

The secret is about Harry Potter, and the thread is specifically about people who know that Brits don't celebrate Thanksgiving and write fic where Harry Potter characters celebrate Thanksgiving anyway
