Re: Question About Trick-or-Treating
(Anonymous) 2020-05-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)From what I've seen, trick-or-treating has been getting quite a bit less popular over the last couple of decades. I'm 32. When I was a kid, basically every kid I knew went trick-or-treating, but that very much doesn't seem to be the case now, even in smaller towns and suburbs.
As to how kids trick-or-treat in cities - I think the main method is that parents take their kids to malls, and the stores in the malls give out candy. (IMO this is not nearly as much fun as trick-or-treating door to door, but the kids still have fun with it.)
Pretty sure trick-or-treating in apartment buildings basically doesn't happen. I have never once gotten a trick-or-treater in my building, and I've lived here ten years. But my building is on the grungier side; it's possible that nicer buildings sometimes have kids trick-or-treating in them. I doubt it, though.
I don't know if parents drive their kids to suburbs to trick or treat. I think in the 90s city-dwellers probably did this. I lived in a town in the 90s, but sometimes people would still drive their kids to a neighborhood that was know for good trick-or-treating. Some people may still do it today, but with the way trick-or-treating has dropped off in popularity, I doubt it's super common.
