This one is a pretty common gripe, but I hate it when a fanfic author goes out of their way to establish that "it's the past and nobody lives past fifty" because they failed to realize that the stats the looked up were averages. The average age of death during that time was like 39, but that's because a whole wack of people never made it to their first birthday, and a whole wack more never made it to ten.

Yeah, if you lived to be twelve or so you’d probably at least make mid-sixties and people could live into their 80s.

Right? People 2000 years ago were actually living up to 70+ if nothing else got them.
