It's a known DW thing, actually - there's your _first_ Doctor, and then there's _your_ Doctor. In most cases they aren't the same Doctor. It doesn't mean your first Doctor is in some way worse or that your perception have changed - it's just that the specific _your_ Doctor didn't happen to be the one you started with.
(I have started with Ten as well but my Doctor is also Twelve and I love them both <3)
philstar22: (11 hang in there)

Yup. I started with Nine, but Eleven has been my Doctor since I first saw him. From his first scene I knew I was going to love him. Twelve has become my second favorite and I also adore Thirteen. Nine and Three are also in my top 5. And then Five and Four are in slot 6, tied. But Eleven will probably now always remain my Doctor.

Thiiis! So much.

Eccleston was my first and I still love him a lot, but Capaldi is my Doctor.
Whittaker is my new new Doctor (I feel like this new era is different from previous ones), Throughton is my classic Doctor and McGann is my audio drama and book Doctor.

When it comes to Classic Doctors, mine is Three. I just love his barely repressed patrician rage. Also, the capes. And Liz. And the Brig.

Same here, especially as regards the Brig. <3

Three is my favorite classic Doctor, with Four and five tied as my second and sixth favorite over all.

I want to learn more about Seven; I've only seen the first couple of adventures he had, which were pretty underwhelming, but from what I hear, he turned into the kind of Doctor that's my jam - loving, ruthless, dark, and protective. So, yeah, hope to find out about him.

I've only seen one episode of Seven so far, and I didn't dislike it. Honestly, the Doctor I've disliked in the most episodes is 10. I spent all of series 2 plus chunks of his other series wanting to punch him.
kaffy_r: A Dreamwidth Sheep w/Ninth Doctor appurtenances (Dream sheep is Nine)

Understood. I think I came to Ten predisposed to dislike him because of my sorrow at losing Nine being firmly in place. It didn't help that his physical appearance wasn't one that I've ever found attractive - lips too thin for my taste, which I understand is heresy - and then what he did to a) Harriet Jones, b) Martha, and c) Donna.

I've since come to enjoy him more because I learned how sweet a guy Tennant actually is, and came to appreciate his excellent sense of comic timing. I've also seen him act when some of his more annoying tics were in check, and realized that he can be a pretty powerful actor. But yeah ... probably should have created a fandom secrets secret about it years ago.

*looks around nervously, hoping Ten's more extreme fans don't see this and pile on*

Three is my first Doctor.
Four is my Doctor.
I still think all of them are fun, though.

I've heard it described as being a first love vs a true love situation. Nine will always be my first love and nothing will change that but 12 is definitely true love. I could watch Capaldi as the Doctor forever.
