i don't like cheating but it's also a little defendant on the romance in question, how old the characters are and the setting.

like if it's a show about dumb teens being dumb, and part of that dumb is them cheating on their romantic partners, then i can kind of take it in stride because i can excuse that kind of 'not sure what i want' behavior when characters are young. there are ofc ways it can be done where i don't like it, but by in large i can roll with teens being stupid about the whole thing.

adult characters on the other hand? i pretty much never like it. if it's 100% presented as a character flaw and a character is a notorious cheater then that's one thing, if it's a happy/married/committed couple and one/both cheat 'bc reasons' then i will get extremely annoyed. 1) they're both adults, if the romance isn't working then they can in fact just end it civilly without the run-around, 2) 9/10 it's done for cheap, stupid drama to 'spice things up' bc the writers are lazy and unimaginative.

now there are cases with adults where it can make sense or work: the romance was never meant to last and both characters are assholes anyway, it's someone cheating to get away from a horrible/abusive/toxic partner.

but yeah generally i really dislike it.
