Meh, I'm not a fan of race being a thing in my fic. Like I appreciate if it's acknowledged if racism is time-period appropriate, or in a situation like HP where a pure-blood getting with a muggle-born is frowned upon, or whatnot, in that case I definitely want some recognition of the plausible fallout it might cause within the society they grew up in/around them. Though that's more to do with world building and realism, both I love to see in the fics I read than any want to read that sort of material.

I may have just grown up in a very tolerant area, and as much as I know that racism is very much a thing (especially) to this day, I become distinctly worried/discomforted when a modern work treats race very prevalently. Almost to the point I wonder how much of it is the authors opinion/experience, and I become hesitant to read much more of their works because of that.
I almost feel hypocritical saying this since I adore myself some internalized/possible homophobia in my slash fics, almost to the point I become disappointed when there isn't a gay panic/acknowledgement of some sort, but at the same time I feel race is on a different level. Like you don't grow up being fed one thing, only to reach adolescence and discover you desire something else, with race as you might with sexuality. To each their own of course, you do you, I suppose I just don't see it the same way.

(also sorry for the tangent, I got away from myself quite a bit;;)
