What's the line between touching/sentimental and emotionally manipulative?

That's a good question; especially since it varies per person.

I think when it feels so VERY forced and like it was more Manipulative vs Story Driven? Like, keeping someone around to constantly be near-death, but STILL die in the end? I think it's a sort of case-by-case thing, too, maybe?

(I wish I could explain myself properly, because I think this is an excellent question and I wish I knew the answer without sounding hypocritical or confusing).
