Aw man! I've been playing that too, but started with Yakuza 0 for PS4!! I can't say anything about downer endings, but from my context I'm at a whole different Kiryu. (and Majima)
I would highly recommend playing 0, Kiwami, and (what I'm doing) waiting for the remaster of one and two to come out before playing onwards. (a lot of content was removed because america apparently) And like, I don't /think/ anything especially tragic happens, maybe? But this is the sort of game that you never know... So... buckle up? This may be a bumpy ride.

there's a remaster? is Kiwami 1&2 not 1&2 with more Majima content?
