And there have been out gay characters in anime long before Korra, so arguments that Korra writers couldn't do it are equally as strange. Funny how it's always women who are never good enough, but the bare minimum effort fdrom men gets asspats.

LoK ain't an anime. That's not pedantry, it's completely relevant: it's subject to extremely different pressures.

So, not so funny story. Those gay characters in anime long before Korra tended to be edited out/gender-swapped/etc. when they were brought over to the US market. Not sure why you would think an American show explicitly made for the US market could pull it off.
