Yes... because no one gives a shit on a wider level if someone writes a het pairing. It's not a matter of, on the plus side, inclusion and being seen, or on the negative side, brownie points and marketing. The only reason to argue about whether a het couple is canon is if you're a shipper, which is great but also not relevant to the discussion. People aren't pissed at JKR for making it an offhand comment because they really wanted Snumbledore over... whatever the ship name for Dumbledore/McGonagall was (no shade I just can't remember).
