I'm very into visual sexual things, at least certain kinds, so I'd find that very frustrating. I actually need visuals to get off on my own, even though I'm a woman. Books don't do it for me. Glad you're happy, though, and it works for you.

Censorship in general is bad, though, and the fact that it helps you in this one way doesn't outweigh all the negative ways this kind of censorship actively hurts people.

I'm a little bit like this - visuals does nothing for me, but I get off on reading porn and even moreso for audio (especially dirty talking with the right sounding voice *chef kiss*)

to me there's a difference between a piece of media not being overly explicit with a couple by choice, as in the creator just doesn't care for overly sexual moments, and media restricted by it because if they don't they'll be heavily punished for it.

by in large i don't care about make-outs/sex scenes as much as other fans seem to when watching shows, i need romance+emotion above sex(tho i do like one or two good kisses), but i also don't like it when a creator literally has that choice taken away by shitty laws.

not to mention that real LGBT individuals are marginalized by these strict censorship laws and unable to actually see themselves in the media they consume because those laws don't allow it. that's never going to be a 'good' thing in my book.

OP here.

I know censorship is bad, and I'm not trying to suggest that it isn't. Thanks to everyone for being super eager to make sure that I'm not a censorship apologist, LOL.

You made a secret that said something positive about censorship, without clarifying that you're not pro-sensorship. Of course people are going to point it out.

People jump to conclusions despite a lack of evidence, you mean. It's a common reaction, but that doesn't mean it's a rational one.

people have a tendency to overreact around these parts. i had no problem understanding what you meant in your secret.

Thank you. I'm pretty sure most reasonable people won't automatically assume that because I didn't make a big show over denouncing censorship that OF COURSE I must be in favor of it.

Lol yep

OP: "I like censorship when it benefits me!"
Also OP: "Why are you suggesting I like censorship???"

NAYRT and not OTP

Saying 'I found an upside to censorship' is not the same as 'I find censorship morally defensible'. People are capable of having multi-faceted feelings about complex issues.

i think w books you can imagine it to be more in line w what you like. and w visuals it can sometimes be too in your face w an ambiance you are like 100% into? i LOVE visuals but i am also ridiculously picky lmao, so it's gotta be exactly the right visuals, for me at least.

but it makes perfect sense that you'd be uncomf watching scenes like that w other people. funnily enough i used to ~relate~ to those memes of people feeling awkward when a sex scene happens in a movie they are watching w other people, especially parents. but i feel like i've been desensitized at this point and i even make stupid commentary during them sometimes (i'm one of THOSE people who talks while watching shit, i know i know haha). but i am definitely under the impression i am in the minority there.

i don't like watching people fuck or make-out either, even if they're actors on a screen. for me it feels like i've been pushed into a voyeuristic position against my will and i get major secondhand embarrassment. strangely, i'm much less bothered by it if it's just a gif or a screencap. i think it must help that i can't hear any of the noises or something. i'm totally fine with reading filthy porn tho. there's no real people involved there.

I am not prude but I prefer my sexual content in the written form. Sometimes I have the feeling that all those "sexy scenes" are just thrown into nearly every movie / show. Sometimes they are necessary but most of the time I just roll my eyes and wonder why a certain scenes but happen now.

Ironically the only series where I always alright with them was GOT (mostly because I loved a lot of these scenes in the book and I was head over heels when a certain scene made its way into the series)
