Re: Favorite villain tropes
(Anonymous) 2020-05-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)But... it has to be done well, and with great care. There are villains I couldn't care about even though they fell under this category.
I also take interest in the villain who's just irrevocably fucked up and evil to the core. I obviously wouldn't want to know someone like that IRL, but I kind of like it when the writers push the envelope, not just for shock value, but to spell out just how fucked up the villain really is. I especially like it when we get to hear their backstory.
But again, it must be done well. I don't care for villains who just ramble on about garbage that we're just supposed to accept, even though their motives are poorly explained, or they're just half-assing everything in such a boring way. If they're gonna have the upper hand, it had better not be for a lame reason.
