always? nah. frequently? ehhh depends on the genre. often? yeah, and that's a Japanese trope. you either get used to it or you don't.

ftr as an avid shounen consumer I almost never run into this trope. at all. like the worst offender of all my favorite series is probably Kurama in YuYu Hakusho and lots of people still love him and the show. but I guess the drawback is that if you don't like fighting, shounen isn't your genre.

Kurama’s definitely pretty, but I don’t think he’s actually girly despite using flowers and plants to fight.

Kurama is a "bishounen". He's pretty but he's not actually "looking like/acting like a girl". These are two different things/two different character types and I wish people would stop acting like they're the same thing.
