Re: Favorite villain tropes

I get interested in villains with a non-edgy sense of humor; that use unexpected strategies; or enjoy non-violent aspects of crime. Bonuses if they really have to work at it or have a life outside of it.

Unpopular, but I rather liked the idea behind Leviathans from Supernatural. Not big on the borax weakness, but in a series with major power creep, they were refreshing in that they were brutal creatures who absolutely could have just gone whole hog on humanity but understood how much more they had to gain by working their way into a major US corporate takeover.

Also there's something about how happily their leader latched onto terrible corporate-speak. "That is not how we communicate from a place of yes!" after getting partially melted is still great to me.

I also liked Ms. Lint from the recent Tick series, especially by the end of the second season. She rolls her eyes while working her way around the superhero/supervillain systems in the City but still has to deal with her slacker ex still in her apartment and static cling from her electricity powers. She's one of the few characters that questions what she does, but knows what she's about enough to plan for what makes her happiest - it makes her an interesting wild card.
