"bashing" is very specifically writing the character in an actively horrible way that is arguably NOT supported in the original media (but you do it because you don't like them, fuck the original media).

"not character friendly" is writing the character in a way in which the character's fans or stans will not like (for instance, you may actually enjoy the character, but you want to write about something that you KNOW is controversial in fandom and which you feel does not make the character admirable).

they have overlap but they're not the same, and "not character friendly" covers more than "bashing" does and invites far less arguments for those people who read tags properly.
