I just assumed he was brought on to be Deadpool's NoHomo love interest, but then we had Colossus so idk

I mean to be fair, with Deadpool there's a lot of homo.

It's one of Deadpool's many many charms

does anyone have fic recs of Deadpool being ultra flirtatious with everyone within arm distance?

No sexy times needed, just heavy snark and flirting...

You've inspired me, anon.

Deadpool and Colossus have very little to do with each other in the comics, but he was a great choice for the movie!

(Anonymous) 2020-05-18 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes Colossus the metallic beefcake <3

I think you're giving Rob Liefeld too much credit.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
to be fair, what ISN'T giving Rob Liefeld too much credit

This.

1) Comics had already been using those and adjacent tropes for years before Cable and 2) even if they hadn't, it was obvious they'd be accepted by readers because they've been media staples for even longer.

You don't think it's more likely that he was popular and then they constantly copied him?

Also, previously unknown relative of popular character has been big since comics started! Evil twin goes back way further than that, and time travel was popular in the 70s and 80s. It's more like Liefeld dumped a whole lot of tropes together, added pouches, and off he went!

This is quite possibly the best description of Liefeld's character creation process (as seen from the outside, in any case) that I have ever seen. Combine a whole bunch of tropes, add pouches. Amazing.

Like others mentioned, those were already popular before Cable. Rachel comes to mind.
