I always got the idea that Dean's attitude towards stuff like that was more a direct result of how his father raised him (or lack thereof) and not what's actually normal. Like, guys hug each other all the time. But Dean's dad raised him very, very "old fashioned" and strict and being the oldest he was supposed to be the stand-in father figure when their real dad was off doing whatever and I think that really messed him up in a lot of ways. You even see a bit of contrast with Sam in how they approach such things because Sam was never expected to have as much responsibility as Dean and because he lived away from that sort of environment for a while.
