Was the yeast alive? If it was, next time turn your oven onto the lowest it can go. Let it warm up a bit, and then stick the bread to proof in there (with the door opened a bit if it gets too warm inside).

Yeah, brand new yeast.
It's supposed to just prove at room temp, but i think my house is just too cold. So yeah - turning the oven on to 200, making the dough, turning the oven off and letting it prove for a bit, see if anything happens. Turning my oven light on if it needs it.

My UK friend has made it to direction three times, and it's been great for her, so...we shall see.

Ah. I generally do kneaded breads with activated yeast. I enjoy working the dough.

I'm too lazy to do that stuff - i haven't made bread in years because homg, I don't want to mess with knead, prove, knead, prove.

But this seemed super-easy and i do like good bread. So we shall see what happens the second time around!

I've had luck raising pizza dough on top of the fridge (warm). I've also heard of leaving your oven off but turning the oven light on and simply letting the heat from bulb warm the dough (less likely to get too hot that way).

I put it in the oven so the cats wouldn't fuck with it, heh. I'm trying the oven light thing next.
