(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)It's always the same thing in this discussion - YOU GET USED TO IT and it doesn't take ages, and THEN you no longer have the problem of "I watch substitles instead of visuals". It's that simple.
Or do you really believe that non-English speakers never watch teh visuals in films/shows or are somehow gentically predisposed to reading subtitles...?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)I don't know why everyone turns this into a "huh? so you're privileged huh? so you can't take reading subtitles because any language other than english is bad huh?" I watch a lot of subbed stuff. I've also watched subbed stuff. Some people just don't want to use them, some people can't for vision reasons or because they're dyslexic or whatever. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Personally I have watched Dark and The Rain and thought they were pretty good. I enjoyed Dark a lot more than I did The Rain but if Rain comes out with another season I'll watch it.
And also, yes, the shows are bad sometimes because they suffer from the same problem that all Netflix's originals have--they lean hard on a concept and expect that idea to carry everything instead of quality writing or anything else that actually makes a good show a good show. After you've watched it and thought "huh, that wasn't very good" it's off to the next concept show. And then the next. And then...their entire model is basically built off of getting people onto the platform by dangling things that might look good in front of their face and then keep dangling things around that might look good to watch.
+1 on all of this

(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)I can read subtitles. I do watch subbed things, including on Netflix. It just has to be worth the minor added hassle in a way that dumb genre shows usually aren't.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-22 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)Tbh, I respect people who just say "I don't like making this tony bit of extra effort" more than those who try to convince me that they are somhow incapable of doing this. Seems more honest.
