And this is why cosplay goes to the dogs every year at cons.

Cosplay isn't just a COSTUME. It is short for COSTUMED PLAY. It's not just donning a costume--hell, it's going to be the same costume for roughly 28 people. It's being the character in the costume. Hell, if you ever read Negima, you'd know how Chisame is about cosplay. If I were to get it wrong, I'd put the character to shame.

Cosplay is living fanfiction. If you fuck up the characters, or don't even try to BE them, don't even bother with doing it. It'll make you the laughing stock of the entire fandom that saw you.

Please, for the sake of whatever fandom you're in. Never cosplay, unless you learn what it really is.

Before you cosplay, or even before you think you know what cosplay is, check out Lucky Star, Genshiken and Negima (particularly the Chisame arcs). Then you might get the anxiety behind cosplaying a character you love.
