Because anyone who's thinking in those terms probably is just going to not recommend the thing at all? I know that's the case with me - if I'm thinking, "Oh, this person might like this book, but then again it does have this issue that they hate", I just don't recommend them the book.

Yeah, if I am recommending stuff to someone I know, I generally know what subjects to avoid. If I am recommending to strangers, I expect them to do their due diligence and research it first.
