I used to love RG now I find him insufferable. I'm starting to realise Stephen Merchant must have been the true brilliance behind such shows as The Office.
I also find the athiests (including some writing here) like RG who think everyone who is religious is an idiot and religion is the cause of all evil in the world. To me, this is very black and white thinking. (btw I'm not religious, I'm just sick of preachy atheists).
Consider the fact that the majority of the humans on the planet consider themselves religious in some way. The majority aren't actively harming others but just living their lives.
Also there are plenty of people who have massacred others without religion as the excuse. Hitler? Stalin? What about people like Pol Pot in Cambodia?
In fact, I would argue the benefits of religion outweigh the negatives.

Brave stance around here, though I agree with you. Round my way the atheists gather in pubs to congratulate each other on how advanced and enlightened they all are whilst the believers run all the projects actually benefitting people. But hey, I'm sure someone will come along and tell us how Stalin went to seminary therefore religion etc etc to restore the overall smugness ratio.

/RG is one of those celebrity atheists who is just entirely up himself. See also S Fry.
