It sounds that way because of the emotional baggage you're carrying to this debate. If you left that behind, you'd see that I'm not actually saying it's ONLY the extras and cringey smut that makes me hesitant to rec the novel. I'm not a fan of the writing as a whole. The extras and hilariously awful smut is simply one of the more egregious examples. Yet despite all this, I said I mentioned the novel with that caveat to people who loved the drama. At least one person appreciated that.

Perhaps if you didn't have all the negative associations of other debates you've read elsewhere involving other people, you wouldn't feel so defensive that some people here like the drama better than the novel. It' sjust personal preferences, not not a personal attack.
