I wouldn't say I hate Doctor Who, but I have absolutely zero interest in it, which makes me annoyed by how popular it is. Ten years ago it didn't bother me, but at this point it's like, oh my god, can it please just GO AWAY?

I felt that way about Harry Potter in its heyday. I just wanted it to go away so bad.

That's how I feel about Supernatural, every version of Sherlock Holmes, and Game of Thrones. I wish they'd go away so I didn't have to hear about them all the time. Especially Supernatural.

Doctor Who is as ingrained to the British culture as tea time. Possibly because in ye olden days it was the only family-friendly program airing during tea time.

I don't know, I've seen some stuff in Doctor Who that I think would scare the crap out of little kids.

That was the point! If you didn't get freaked out were you really watching Doctor who? (I still have unspecified fears of certain amorphous unidentifiable monsters from episodes I watched as a child - a few random, odd, disconnected images that cause shivers when they pop up in dreams.)

ayrt

I used to teach kids and from what I've seen, kids love that kinda stuff. (Favourite video game among kids aged 6-12? Five Nights at Freddy's. Yup.)

"Hiding behind the sofa watching Doctor Who" is a big British cultural joke. Most gen Xers were traumatised by their early Doctor Who experiences!

SAME. please leave fandom entirely thanks.

It feels to me like Doctor Who isn't even particularly popular anymore

I kinda feel that way about it too. I think when Ten and Eleven were the Doctors was when you couldn't get away from Doctor Who. Hot Topic was saturated with merch and you couldn't go in any fandom space without people talking about it. I feel like that mania kinda died down after Twelve was cast.

I think you can date the start of the loss of popularity very specifically to Good Man Goes To War
